Maureen’s Love For Her Residents Has Transformed Lives
When Maureen Healy visited her aunt at Ashland Farm at North Andover in North Andover, Mass., she fell in love with the residents and the atmosphere and wanted “to be a part of it.” She began working as a part-time receptionist, commuting an hour and 15 minutes from her home in Kennebunkport, Maine.
After each shift, she volunteered in the activity department. “We saw Maureen’s potential and promoted her to the activity department,” says Executive Director Fran Walker. “We soon noticed her knack for engaging memory-impaired residents, and she was promoted to Memory Care Programming Coordinator.”
“Maureen’s effect was instantaneous,” says Memory Care Director Renee Bouchard. “She truly understands dementia and its progression. She knows each resident’s abilities and desires and keeps them engaged. Where others see limitations, Maureen sees endless possibilities. Her dedication to Elevate Human Connection and her love for her residents has transformed life at Ashland Farms.”
Maureen uses the community’s shuttle to give residents a world of experiences. Along with trips to lighthouses and museums, residents feel warm beach sand on their toes and taste hot chocolate while watching skiers at the nearby Ski Bradford ski area. Maureen captures their joy in photos that she shares with families.
Ever since that defining day when she visited her aunt, who she now sees five days a week, Maureen has made a difference for the many families of residents in memory care who credit her thoughtful programs for “bringing their loved ones back to life.”
Every Benchmark community recognizes a monthly Service Champion, an associate who exemplifies our values. At the end of the year, each community names one of their 12 Service Champions as “Service Champion of the Year.” Maureen Healy is the 2017 Service Champion chosen by Ashland Farm at North Andover.
