Communities Test-Drive New Lifts for Residents with Limited Mobility
Residents with limited mobility often need the assistance of a full-body lift or a sit-to-stand lift to move from a bed, wheelchair, shower or toilet. In Benchmark communities, lifts are supplied by residents’ families, Medicare and hospice agencies. These lifts can vary in quality, comfort, configuration and ease of operation.
To improve our associates’ and residents’ experience and safety, we are exploring the possibility of equipping our communities with their own electric lifts. We’re currently piloting different models of electric lifts at Harbor Point at Centerville and The Atrium at Rocky Hill. Safety Manager Mike Perkins and Regional Care Directors Karen Bain and Mary Lou Fahy are leading the pilot in partnership with two of our key suppliers, Medline and Direct Supply, that provided the lifts and training to our associates.
The two communities participating in the lift pilot are helping to address issues such as battery life, lift storage and maintenance, availability and transitioning from personal lifts to “in-house” lifts.
The lift pilot has received some terrific feedback and will expand to more communities over the next few months.
